Hi, just a clarification: I wouldn't claim that reggaeton (or any genre) is "dead." I would say it has crashed -- I was trying to use a metaphor from the current economic climate -- just as there was a housing bubble and crash, but people still live in houses, reggaeton had a bubble and a crash, though it still exists and people listen to it.

To me the further reggaeton gets away from its caribbean roots (in the direction of mainstream American urban music trends), the more anemic it sounds, but that's just one man's opinion and maybe has no relation to the crash. If you compare the new autotuned reggaeton&b to old Playero tapes, it's clear to me which one sounds more stagnant and lazy. Not to say reggaeton should remain a static thing (as if that were possible), but chasing pop trends is not doing anything for me in this case. I don't think I'm the only one; as you note, the reggaeton tracks you hear people blasting are the ones from 5 years ago!

Well put. Having cultures appropriating the N word just because rappers say it willy nilly in rap music is ridiculous because it takes it out of context and simplifies the word and makes it "OK" for people to say. ridiculous.

Wow, best show of any band in like two years, for me.
Best moment is half the band off stage while they hold the feedback note on the guitar for, what, 40 seconds, frozen like statues.

An aged fan there to see the Rite of Spring was cranky, yelling at fans rushing the aisle between the folding chairs. He was super old. His reading material between sets was the plastic bag of free supermarket flyers that the mailman leaves on the doorstoop.

Hey Loco,

Man, I don't know, seeing Café Tacuba last year was like a dream come true, even with all the crazy moshing kids! HOWEVER, I did think yesterday was a good show and definitely the best lineup I've experienced at the SummerStage/LAMC show. The weather was fucking lovely, too, which helped. :)

You're right, it's weird that I even know about Raff. It's cos I got into Makiza (the group Anita Tijoux was in), and heard about him through them. Raffolution is awesome and I seriously wish he had distro in the US--maybe next album?? I'm glad Bitman had Raff play with him.

I'm definitely gonna check out Plastilina Mosh some more, and Tea Time too, while I'm at it. Thanks so much for telling me what his name was! I really appreciate your comment.

yo wassup

the rapper that was with Bitman was "Tea Time". Surprised you knew Raff but not Tea Time. Yeah, there were some technical issues with the show but it was still slamming.

You should check out Plastilina Mosh a lot more. They were amazing live today at Central Park.

You should tell the Summerstage folks that they fucked up with Bitman's bio. Strange that they would say he was with Los Tres

The song PLastilina Mosh sang me so horny was part of Nalgita

you say -

I will say that this wasn’t my best experience at the LAMC show for SummerStage but I definitely enjoyed it for what it was.

I think it was a great Summerstage show and another great LAMC event
I am glad that it comes to New York year after year

you should support !
