If I Must Tell The Truth…

I was at the AV Club site today, and one of the comments a reader left on the review for the new Liars album stated that the person had never listened to They Threw Us All in a Trench & Stuck a Monument on Top, so the reader couldn’t understand why the reviewer had compared the band to The Rapture at all.  Boy!  Way to make me feel old.  I’m surprised by how long I’ve kept track of this band.  I can’t believe the band still exists, actually.  I thought after the original lineup broke up, the new formation would just implode.  Here they are instead, better than ever.  I still say that Drum’s Not Dead is their best work, but the new self-titled is one of the best new albums I’ve heard in 2007.  It makes me happy.  I kind of wish I still had my copy of Time Out New York (or was it New York mag?) with the band on the cover.  Who would have thought they’d still be around and actually making cool music?  God knows what a disappointment it has been to see groups like The Strokes, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs change their sound in such a lame fashion.  At least they could show some growth.  Let’s face it, all these groups have hit a plateau.  Of course I won’t lose hope…  Liars and TV on the Radio are still awesome and I love both groups for not fucking up (yet).
